Have you recently got engaged and finding the Wedding planning a little overwhelming? Don’t worry every couple does. Here is an easy month by month guide outlining everything you need to do on the run up to your big day.

12 Months +

Start putting together a realistic budget, noting where you can splurge and where you can save?

Find ideas and have a think together of how you envision your day looking, check out wedding blogs, magazines and Pinterest for some fabulous ideas
Compile a guest list to outline how many day and night guests will be attending

Decide who you want in your Wedding Party

Have a think about what time of year you would like to get married in and try narrow down a couple of dates (click here for our blog post on questions to ask when looking for a venue)

Look and visit potential venues for the Ceremony and Receptions – once you find the one Reserve the Date 
Do you need Wedding Insurance?

Send out your Save the Dates and make sure all your Family and Friends can make it to help you celebrate!

Find a dress – need inspiration make sure you check out our Events Page for Details of our Next Wedding Fair and Fashion Show

Start thinking about what suppliers you will need to book, make sure you get everything in writing:

  • Entertainment
  • Photographer
  • Florist, etc

Decide on what type of ceremony you would like to have – check out our ceremony page for details on the different types of services available – make sure you complete all the relevant paper work for your marriage license

6 – 9 Months to go

Decide on what decorations are needed for the ceremony and reception

Organise a cake tasting and talk about what type of design you would like

Hire entertainment for the evening reception

Agree on the wording and design for your invitations

Create a gift registry and let people know where this is

Confirm if you require any accommodation for yourselves and family – group bookings usually receive a discount so make sure you ask about this

Shop around for bridesmaid/ flower girl dress and suits or kilts for the groomsmen

Book transportation to the venues

Nominate someone to organise your hen party

Have a look at honeymoon destinations

3 – 5 months to go

Organise a rehearsal and make sure everyone in your bridal party is available

Order wedding favours

Confirm the grooms outfit

Finalise the guestlist, menu for the Wedding Breakfast, Invitation, Ceremony readings and vows, timeline of Wedding Day

Book a make up and hair trial

Shop for Wedding Rings

Organise and finalise honeymoon plans

6 – 8 weeks to go

Getting close now and only a few things left to do

Mail out invitations

Touch base with all your suppliers and confirm all the final details letting your venue know of contact details and timings

Book your dress fitting

Consider if you need dancing lessons to impress all your guests for you first dance as a married couple

Decide on what thank you cards you are going to send out

3 – 5 weeks to go

Finalise and Confirm

Wedding Vows / readings / music

Confirm with your photographer what photos and group shots you would like during your day

Timeline for the day

Wedding night and honeymoon accommodations

Obtain marriage license

Pick up wedding rings

Do you have something old, something new and something blue?

Purchase your guestbook

Buy thank you gifts for you wedding party

Final dress fitting – make sure you bring your shoes with you

Contact any last minute guests who haven’t RSVP yet

1 – 2 weeks to go

Give your venue final numbers

Arrange and finalise seating plan

Collect your Wedding Dress

Check the weather

Pack for the Wedding night and Honeymoon

Any beautician appointments needing booked

Day Before

Drop of if possible any favours, gifts, table centres, place cards etc at the venue

Lay out everything needed for the next day

Attend the Wedding Rehearsal

Get good night’s sleep!!

Wedding-day advice

Allow lots of time to get ready – you want to enjoy this and not be rushing

Make sure you try and get round all of your guests to thank them for coming

Take a deep breath and enjoy the moment that you have spent so much time planning!!!

After the wedding

Send thank you cards

Complete and collect your gifts

Decide what you are going to do with your Wedding Dress and have it dry cleaned

Find out from your photographer when to expect your photos

Thank all your suppliers

And relax 🙂 ...
